GOVERNMENT is impressed with implementation of COVID-19 mandatory health protocols at the country’s airports following the resumption of domestic and international flights.

This comes as Zimbabwe opened its airspace two weeks ago to allow free movement of goods and human traffic after months of a COVID-19 induced national lockdown.

The resumption of flights does not however mean laxity, as government remains on high alert to ensure the consolidation of strides achieved in containing the virus.

It is against this background that the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, was at Robert Gabriel Mugabe international airport this Monday to assess the implementation of government directives in respect of COVID-19 mandatory health Protocols.

According to the Director of Airports, Mr Tawanda Gusha, Covid-19 containment measures put in place have so far been encouraging without any incidences.

“ Since flights resumed we have had 30 per cent load factor and the numbers have been increasing each passing day as we try to contain the pandemic, he said.

After an assessment tour of the country’s biggest airport, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa was left satisfied that the responsible authorities have put in place all the necessary precautionary measures to ensure a safe environment.

“I am here on a tour of the airport and I have assessed the situation here and I am happy to report that travellers are showing confidence with protocols with regards to preventive and control measures taking place here in line with World Health Organisation and government regulations,” said the Minister.

Demonstration of ease of doing business is also being exhibited at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport health centre where three laboratories have a testing turnaround time of not more than two and half hours.
