Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) yesterday announced the nominees for the virtual ZAA USA and Canada 2020 editions in a live broadcast online, which features a shortlist of the outstanding Zimbabwean people and organisations based in the North American countries.
The two editions will hold a combined virtual event with a segment for each, on 16 January 2021 after pushing the initial dates for the respective editions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Voting for both editions begin on 28 December on the ZAA website www.zimachievers.com
“The ZAA USA and Canada 2020 virtual edition is here to recognize, celebrate and honour some of the leading lights this year. It has been a difficult year for everyone but our people’s exploits have been a constant source of inspiration for all that Zimbabweans can and continue to do. I would like to congratulae all the nominees and thank our partners and everyone who has worked to fly the Zimbabwean flag high,” said ZAA Chairman Conrad Mwanza.
This year’s virtual edition is sponsored by global remittance company WorldRemit, funeral insurance firm ZororoPhumulani and South African-based property investment company Burmain Properties.
The nominees for both countries feature an impressive line-up headlined by motorcross sensation and humanitarian Tanya Muzinda, actor Tongayi Chirisa, entrepreneur Michael Maponga, Malume Thamu of Asakhane Live and Amanda Nothando, among others.
The Zimbabwean communities abroad have gone beyond their achievements to foster unity and charity among themselves together with the home communities, especially during these trying times.
“It has been a difficult year for most people but we are pleased with how people have come up with ways to support each other and those facing dire straits. There are many community based initiatives by various groups and individuals and even a fund set aside by well-wishers to help others. In it all, I am proud that we have not lost our roots as Zimbabweans and as ZAA we are happy to celebrate with our people once more,” said Savanna Madamombe at the nominee announcement event.
ZAA USA and Canada editions will be marking the 5th and 2nd anniversary, respectively, of celebrating Zimbabwean achievers around the world. The virtual event follows hot on the heels of the physical events held in December for the 6th annual ZAA SA in Johannesburg and the inaugural ZAA Botswana edition in Gaborone.
