Shurugwi – A close relative of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa was found dead here of a cyanide attack.
Mr Joachim Mungenge is said to have killed his three children before turning on himself according to the latest indications
The incident has left the entire Shurugwi community shell-shocked.
Mungenge is a cousin-brother in-law relation of VP Mnangagwa through his first wife who was also sister to the late army commander Josiah Tongogara. The incident also comes short in the heels of a cyanide attack on Mnangagwa’s office in December last year.
‘We are all short of words and this is indeed an appalling tragedy,’ a police source told ZimEye.com.
The children were in form 4, form 2 and grade 6 respectively. Their bodies were at Shurugwi police station for several hours yesterday.
The police are said to be investigating the case amid a community outcry that they are compromising evidence on what truly happened.
Although the State Media were yesterday blocked from covering the incident, ZimEye.com managed to obtain interviews with key people.
‘It appears the man became possessed with spirits,” suggested one source close to the investigations.
Mnangagwa could not be reached for comment as he was said to have kncoked off work at the time of writing.

  1. Can you explain what is Shona or Ndebele about this. I will explain what is wrong with it and you take it up. In Ndebele uncle is baba omncane, small father. His son is bhudi (brother) (lose translation… ignore mfowethu etc). But in English that same person is a cousin. It is people like you who want to distinguish that this brother is actually my uncle’s son and not a sibling then you say cousin brother. So in reality who is trying to be English you or the person telling you that their brother is a brother regardless of English? Me thinks you are offside
