Harare preacher Emmanuel Makandiwa people refer to as “prophet,” and Walter Magaya have begun attacking each other in what has now been termed the battle of so-called “prophets.”
It all started when a list of influential Zimbabweans was flighted by a UK website, ZimEye.com has unearthed, and the turf has opened up a can of worms on both preachers’ conduct as previously exposed in several indepth investigations.
The list of Zimbabwe’s most influential youths triggered the shocking tussle between Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries leader Walter Magaya and United Families International church (Ufic) founder Emmanuel Makandiwa causing a vivid rift between them.
This came after Makandiwa was ranked only number 3 while Magaya took first place in the list of the top 100 most influential young Zimbabweans the website compiled.
The war has now broken forth over who is more popular and has a bigger following than the other after Magaya accepted the honour while Makandiwa rubbished the award. Makandiwa has rubbished the award saying it was bogus.
Makandiwa in a broad and emotional narrative, said he dismmisses the award. He also added alleging that he has in the past rejected such honours because he values “heavenly” recognition. His official spokesman, Prime Kufakunesu in a statement said Makandiwa knew a rival church was behind the advert.
That rival church church followers say is Magaya’s congregation.
But Makandiwa’s own church group flighted a newspaper advert congratulating their “prophet” on the award. Kufa did not disclose the members behind the congratulatory advert which he said is “malicious”.
But PHD Ministries spokesperson Admire Mango yesterday told a daily that Makandiwa should not point fingers at others, but deal with “problems in his church internally”.
“We don’t know what they are trying to say in their statement but we believe they should solve their own issues internally and not blame other people,” Mango said.
“We accepted the honour and recognition because we believe the Lord is using the man of God and touching many lives in a humbling way. We don’t seek relevance at all as we don’t seek earthly recognition but again we have to appreciate a recognition bestowed on us.”
The response came after Makandiwa distanced Ufic from a group that published an advertisement in a local daily congratulating him for the listing claiming the statement by a group calling itself “Sons and Daughters” bordered on “terrorism”.
This has sparked speculation of a “Holy War” between the Pentecostal rival prophets over who was more popular than the other.
“Initial professional investigations show that the advert is the work of another church trying to magnify and glorify the bogus award,” Makandiwa said in the advert.
Some church leaders believed the statement confirmed the cold war between the two rival churches over the popularity ratings a move that indicated some Pentecostal churches were losing ground to their rivals.
Mango however, said as far as Magaya was concerned, Makandiwa was his elder brother and treated him as such.
“Prophet Magaya treats Prophet Makandiwa as his brother and he has made it public that he has nothing against him. So any suggestion contrary to it is unfortunate and untoward,” Mango said.
Magaya last month said that he had nothing against Makandiwa but confirmed there was a “silent war” in the Pentecostal movement.
“Yes, there is a silent war especially with those that started earlier. They feel challenged at the rate at which we are growing at,” he said then.(Newsday/Additional Reporting)

The UFIC advert saga took a new twist as fresh information coming in reflects that Mr Enford Tatenda Mberi who fraudulendly flighted an advert in the daily news purpoting to be a son of Makandiwa, is a full time member of PHD Ministries and personal graphic designer of Prophet Magaya, who he uses to design PHD Ministries’ material. The Headboy investigating team accessed pictures on social media which shows Mr Mberi wearing PHD t-shirt and a number of pictures he wore PHD wristbands.
One member of PHD ministries sent an e-mail to The Headboy News and gave information on conditions of anonimity, was annoyed by the fact that Admire Mango the PHD spokesperson denied knowledge of Mr Mberi in the press. The person then provided a photo of Mberi and his close friend only known as Combination which was recently taken in Magaya’s office. Another picture of Mberi and Mango was also provided and The Headboy will post it if Mango keeps denying knowledge of Mberi.
People of PHD contacted by The Headboy confirmed that Mberi is a member of PHP and has a close relationship with Magaya to an extent that he gets access to personal meetings with access. One such meeting was reportedly held a day before the advert was published and our source recorded the short meeting in which the shocking details about the advert saga was discussed. (The Headboy News is in possession of the audio recording and is in the process of checking its authenticity). More information to follow as investigations continue.
So Makandiwa is jealous im sure he,s the one who send that guy
Editor is so desperate to get publicity to such an extent that you do this, this is ridiculous really. If you don’t have better news to show us keep quiet. Journalists seem to be the most stupid people I have ever met, they do things without thinking of tomorrow. Look for another miracle that you claim to be fake and may be I will be convinced as for this one you have failed dismally
i think the writers of this paper need some sermons from Prophet Makandiwa….
Now i see why Prophet Makandiwa said we should pray for our nation Zimbabwe….how can a news paper that calls itself Zimbabwe eye borrow such a pathetic story which has been rejected in all other newsrooms……is this the eye watching over us….Cry my beloved country zimbabwe cry…when are these so called journalists going to mature and give us nyaya chaidzo dzinobatika….Ko tichazivawo riini kuti what developments are taking place in our nation. ko tichazivawo riini kuti ma stands ekuvaka dzimba anowanikwa kupi…ko tichazivawo kuti toita sei ma business munyika medu….
Mr Editor & all involved I want you to judge this case. A man from a different ministry self proclaimed UFI or Makandiwa rival walks into our Daily News offices and surprisingly places an advert congratulating Prophet Makandiwa on receiving an award. He pays US$1 600 for a whole page YET he is not congratulating his church in any way. This whole confusion was caused by this guy called SEAN MBERI. He is not a UFIC member but placed an advert in the name of sons & daughters of Prophet Makandiwa. You can investigate Mr editor with the Daily News its all over the newsroom here we are aware of this scam. SEAN MBERI is the culprit I cant keep quiet let me disclose and put this case to rest. I do not know the reason why he did it or who sent him the motive behind this advert it is all confusing but it is really sad this is happening in churches.
Can someone te us what,s the war all about between them?
Its a pity that some people in this day and age still believe every word that comes from these fly by night newspapers. There is no war or tiff as you continue to report. Everything they report is just a figment of their imagination. Every man of God is aware of the devils treachery and the ways he uses bring misunderstanding’s/hatred amongst brethren. So be warned of this false war !!!!
