Masvingo State Minister, Josaya Dunira Hungwe is blocking Masvingo City Council officials from probing a case in which a government Minister’s irrigation project is causing siltation in Mucheke River.

Deputy Agriculture Minister, Davies Marapira’ s irrigation system is interfering with the city council’ s water works but efforts by the local authority to take corrective action have been blocked by Hungwe.

Masvingo City Mayor, Councillor Hubert Fidze last week said he was aware of the negative impact of Marapira’ s project on the city’ s water system.

“We do not expect such level of negligence from a senior government official,” said Fidze.

He however would not comment on Hungwe’ s involvement in the whole issue.

However officials in the city council’ s engineering department said Hungwe was blocking their efforts to rectify the matter.
