ZEC Meets EU On Election Preps

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) today met the European Union (EU) exploratory team to discuss issues on the Zimbabwean pre-election environment.

The discussions touched on preparations, voter education, funding, electoral reforms, conflict management and media monitoring, among other issues.

ZEC Acting Chairperson, Commissioner Emmanuel Magade informed the team that the commission is in the process of compiling a new voters’ roll, which shall be made available within a reasonable time and in the format prescribed by the law.

He also spoke on conflict resolution.

“We are prepared to set up multi-party liaison committees in various constituencies and wards for the purpose of dealing with electoral disputes that may arise during the electoral process. Media monitoring will be conducted through committees to ensure that all political parties are given access to media to explain their political manifestos,” said Commissioner Magade.

President Emmerson Mnangawa has insisted that the country is going to have free, fair and credible elections and has invited local and international observers to monitor the elections.- state media
