By Farai D Hove| Vice President won for himself unlikely backers on Monday when his nemesis Prof Jonathan Moyo moved to defend him on his ancestry.

NPF Spokesman Jealousy Mawarire had claimed Chiwenga is a Mozambican and his boss Emmerson Mnangagwa, a Zambian.

But Prof Moyo rushed to the two’s side.

Also quipping in was Robert Mugabe’s nephew Patrick Zhuwao who wrote on Twitter: “Well said Prof. It is always good to stand on principle even if the principle contradicts or supports perceived allies or adversaries respectively.”

Wrote Prof Moyo, “It’s false, illegal & unacceptable to say Mnangagwa & Chiwenga are foreigners. They were born in Zimbabwe & contributed immensely to the country’s liberation. A name isn’t a nationality. Besides, it’s not a crime to be a foreigner. People are judged by their deeds, not parentage!”
