The late Chief Mapanzure who died on Wednesday evening has been laid to rest at his homestead in the Mapanzure area near Zvishavane.

Mourners who include top government officials joined the Mapanzure community at the burial of Chief Mapanzure.

In his address at the burial, President of the Chief’ S Council Chief Fortune Charumbira said the Mapanzure family should remain united and celebrate the legacy left behind by a hero in traditional leadership.

“The death of Chief Mapanzure should not bring sorry instead it should bring jubilation for the people of this area who voted for ED,” said Chief Charumbira.

Chief mourner Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Cde July Moyo said the death of Chief Mapanzure is a blow as he was a fountain of knowledge.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda paid tribute to all individuals and corporates who stood with the Mapanzure family during trying times.

“As a family we are humbled by the gesture shown by the people in taking responsibility of the funeral,” said Dr Sibanda.

Addressing mourners on Friday, President-elect Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa who hails from the Mapanzure clan said they is no rush to talk of the replacement to the chief as Collen Shonhayi will hold fort for two years.

Chief Mapanzure died at the age of 96.

He is survived by 10 children and 61 great grandchildren.
