By A Correspondent- Representatives of a Chinese mining company, Reeden Mine in Gweru whose manager shot workers in a pay dispute at the weekend will visit the victims’ family and offer compensation, it has emerged.

Yesterday, ZimEye, exclusively published an article revealing how the two workers had been shot and left injured by a Chinese manager over a salary dispute.

Zhang Xuelin, the manager who shot and injured the duo was however arrested on Sunday and he spent the night in custody.

Sources privy to the developments alleged that Xuelin shot his workers Wendy Chikwaira (31) and Kennedy Tachiona (39) after they approached him demanding their salaries after he had fired them.

It is alleged that a scuffle then ensued leading to the manager withdrawing a 9mm pistol which he used to shoot and injure the two.

Zhang was later picked up by Riot police officers after some other duty police details had taken statements and left without any arrests.

Zhang was charged for attempted murder and the matter is being investigated under ZRP Gweru Rural CR74/06/2020.

Tachiona sustained several gunshot wounds, he is said to be admitted at a private hospital in Gweru.

Chikwaira was treated and discharged from hospital.

Reedem Mine is located 25km from the Midlands capital Gweru, along the Matobo road.
