Press Statement

The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) wishes the people of Malawi a peaceful, free and fair election as the country goes for a fresh Presidential election tomorrow Tuesday, 23 June 2020.
The coalition is concerned with the incidences of violence and hate language reported throughout the campaigns.
Attempts by the Executive to undermine democratic processes by interfering in the work of the judiciary and the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in the runup to this election is unfortunate and should be condemned by all democrats across the region.
We call on all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful election, the security of the voters and everyone participating in those elections.
The SADC Principles and Guidelines governing democratic elections state that it is the responsibility of the State to “Ensure that adequate security is provided to the entire electoral process including all political parties participating in elections”.
We, therefore, call on the government of Malawi and all stakeholders to accept the will of the people, any attempts to manipulate the outcome should be resisted.
We also urge SADC to be vigilant and ensure a smooth electoral process and allow democratic processes in choosing the country’s next leader.
A free, fair, credible and safe election to the good people of Malawi.
