THE late national hero Brigadier General Ruphus Chigudu will be buried at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.
ZANU PF has joined President Emmerson Mnangagwa in mourning the death of Brigadier General Ruphus Chigudu who died on the 24th of last month.
In a statement, ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity and Party Spokesperson Cde Patrick Chinamasa said they applaud the decision taken by the party to confer the national hero status to Cde Chigudu.
Brigadier Chigudu was born on the 11th of December 1955 and joined the liberation struggle under ZANLA forces in 1975.
Brig-Gen Chigudu was awarded seven medals during his distinguished military career, including the Independence Medal, Liberation Medal, Service Medal, Long and Exemplary Service Medal, Mozambique Campaign Medal, Democratic Republic of Congo Campaign Medal and the Commander of the Zimbabwe Order of Merit Award.
Brig-Gen Chigudu joined the liberation struggle in 1976 and received military training at Doroi Camp in Mozambique, before receiving further training in Romania.
The late freedom fighter was attested into the Zimbabwe National Army on April 1, 1981, and was given several responsibilities in the military including army inspections, research and development.
He was promoted to the rank of Brig-Gen on June 11 this year. Brig-Gen Chigudu’s Chimurenga name was Cde Promise Chombo. He is survived by his wife Vimbai and three children, two boys and a girl, Kudzai Matthew, Lenin Munashe and Chido BeautyHe rose through the ranks to become brigadier general.
