A Mabvuku woman and her twenty-one year old daughter who survived rape are now being charged with murder.

They were released after paying ZW$1000 bail. They are set to appear in court on the 30th of November 2020.

The two women were rescued by a mob who delivered instant justice to the alleged rapist who later died.

The mother and daughter had gone to access water on the Wetland located behind Tafara High School commonly known as Gosden area.

According to sources the two women were confronted by the man who demanded sex from the daughter and later turn to the mother after the daughter escaped.

The daughter then called for help in the neighborhood and an angry mob descended on the alleged “rapist.”

“What we are seeing is persecution of the survivor of rape. What if she was raped? Was the state going to arrest her? This is nonsense,” said angry women from Mabvuku.

This is not the first time when women have escaped rape in the outskirts of Mabvuku. Iincidences of attempted rape have been reported on especially women accessing water at public water points located in bushy areas.

CHRA condemns any form of violence against women and calls on the government of Zimbabwe to increase its fiscal commitment towards water supply as this reduces many forms of abuse against women.
