By Farai D Hove | A 35-year old Umguza man was arrested over a mere WhatsApp status video he received from a social media group. The video is a political commentary skit by viral analyst JulieAskana over Emmerson Mnangagwa’s day of fasting back in June 2020.
Mr Victor Majoni is now set to appear in court after being arrested for causing “hatred, contempt or ridicule of the President.”
The case is set to embarrass the police since the well known JulieAskana has no association whatsoever with the accused.
The full case outline is below:
In the matter of the State Versus, MR VICTOR MAJONI AGED; 35Years [Herein after called accused].
- Complainant in this case is the STATE represented by Remigious Komboni of Plot * Hel****** F South, Umguza.
- Accused and Remigious Komboni are not related but they are both farmers in Umguza area and are also in two similar Whatsapp groups called Umguza Irrigation Lots and Umguza Zesa updates. 4. On 14 June 2020 accused person uploaded a 59 seconds video dip on his WhatsApp status registered using mobile number 0785*4****. The video dip had an image of a woman insulting the President and speaking in shona language saying ” AMunangagwa musandibvise pana Mwari, zvamunowona ndaseka ndichiona video, vachiti Zimbabweans must fast in peace for days vachinamata, imwe fasting yamurikuda ndeipi nhai VaMnangagwa, people are fasting already, they are hungry mudzimba umu, not kuti they want to fast, havatorina chekudya, saka imwe fasting yamurikutaura ndeipi nhai VaMnangagwa ,imi baba imi kurai, mava munhu mukuru imi,munotombotaurawo mafunga here imi#, kana kuti murikutaura henyu imimi maelites murikudya muchiguta muchidya mafizhongo everyday, ah imwe fasting yamurikutaura ndeipi iyoyo, taona pa social media mwana wenyu akatenga ndege, arikuita zvaanoda , ndivo vamunofanira kuudza mafasting awa, kwete kuudza hedu isu anaRazaro tiri kutorara tunenzara mudzimba umu, endai kumbare uku, kumarokesheni uku, kumamisha uku ,vanhu varikurara vasina kana chavadya, fasting yamurikutitaurira ndeipi nhaimi, imi baba imi Dzikamai ah kwanai ” – Meaning to say, Mr Mngangagwa don’t distance me away from God, as you see I laughed as I saw this video instructing Zimbabweans to fast in peace for days while praying, which other fasting do you expect Mr Mnangagwa, people are fasting already, they are hungry in their homes, not because they want to fast but they have nothing to eat, so which other fasting are you talking about Mr Mnangagwa, Mr Mngangagwa grow up, you are old enough, do you ever think before talking or maybe you are referring to you the elites who feasting on daily basis. Which other fasting arc you referring to? We saw on social media your son bought an ieroplatie and toes he pleases, they are the ones whom you must instruct to fast not to tell us the poor, we sleeping on empty stomach s in our homes, visit Mbare Musika, locations, rural areas, people are sleeping on empty stomachs. Which other fasting are you referring to? Get organised, he sober. 5. Complainant felt that the utterances may cause hatred, contempt or ridicule of the President. 6. The accused person has no right to act in the manner he did.
Accused person in this case is Victor Majoni, a male adult residing at Mandalay Farm and employed at Mandalay Farm as a farm manager.
