Press Statement

Mthwakazi Democratic Alliance would like to put it on record that, there is no unity in the colonial arrangement termed Zimbabwe. What the ZANU PF is celebrating ironically termed as unity day, is the celebration of the end of the gukurahundi genocide.

In essence, the Unity accord in Zimbabwe marked the symbolic start of the implementation of the 1979 grand plan, which saw Mthwakazi people subjected to systematic tribalism and all forms of state sponsored brutality.

The unity accord was signed to destroyed ZAPU which during that period was a party supported by all the provinces of Mthwakazi. The destruction of ZAPU was symbolic to the attack of Mthwakazi as a nation. Apart from that, the unity accord can be interpreted as a defeat treaty or surrendering treaty.

It also set the political precedent that is currently prevalent in all the political organizations in Zimbabwe, whereby people from Mthwakazi are rewarded with primitive positions which are used to advance the implementation of the 1979 grand plan and to promote the ZANU PF cause simultaneously.

As Mthwakazi people we must never forget what influenced this nonsensical unity day. This unity day was enforced by the 5th Brigade, a military wing which was specifically deployed in Matebeleland to kill all the people from Matebeleland.

This day must be used to remember pregnant women who died their bellies being cut by gun knives. This day must remind us of our innocent people who were buried alive for being Ndebele.

This day must serve as a reminder of our people who were burnt in their houses. This day must remind us of our people who disappeared and were never found up to this day.

We must never forget that, the master mind of gukurahundi genocide was Emmerson Mnangagwa and the father of Nelson Chamisa amongst others.

We must never forget that, the Unity accord marked the enforced shonalisation of Mthwakazi. As they celebrate this day in Zimbabwe, we must never forget that, as thwakazi nation we are not yet free from the brutality of colonization. Colonisation did not end in Mthwakazi, it just changed skin colour. This day must challenge us to unite and fight for the justice of our innocent people who died because of being Ndebele.

As they celebrate this day in Zimbabwe, in Mthwakazi we must lament and reflect on the negative effects of the implementation of the 1979 grand plan.

The 1979 grand plan has brought Shona teachers in Matebeleland who are contributing towards zero percent pass rates at our primary schools in Matebeleland. We must remember that, this day has forced millions of our people to run away from their mother land in search of a better life in other countries.

This day must remind us of our brothers who were killed in Limpopo river trying to cross border to look for a better life in South Africa. We must remember that, this day marked the beginning of wrong spellings of Ndebele words in our passports and almost a number of crucial documents.

As we celebrate this day, we must remember a number of trapped miners at Matshetshe
mine, in which the government refused to save their lives because they were from Matebeleland and up to today they are still underground, but the government of the day is
always quick to save miners from Mashonaland.

As we celebrate this day, we must remember that, a number of our youths are unemployed and have no means of survival. As a political party of Mthwakazi, we have endorsed this day as gukurahundi genocide commemoration day.

It is a day, which reminds us of the fact that, ZANU PF deployed gukurahundi soldiers to kill our people. This day is a reminder of Shona supremacy and all evils that comes with this concept. We must celebrate this day to remember our loved ones who were brutally killed and have never received justice.
