By A Correspondent- Tapuwa Kapini has given credit to hard work after his impressive clean sheet record for Sekhukhune United in South Africa’s second-tier league.
Kapini has been a key figure in Sekhukhune’s chase for a Premiership ticket and their victory over Polokwane City moved them into second place on the table with 47 points from 29 games.
“It’s amazing, I think it’s all because of hard work, as the goalkeeping department we’ve been working so hard on and the whole team.
“I think all the clean sheets belong to the team and I’m happy that I have managed to keep 10 clean sheets. So we are happy with what we have been doing well.
“I have been doing this since I was seven, so I don’t think I’m getting better with age, it’s only that the talent is there.
“It’s God given and I’ve been doing this since I was young and I’m still going to do it.
“So it’s all up to me that’s why I look after myself very well, my body. And the support I get from my family and friends keeps me going, not the age, I can be 50 years and still do it,” he said.
The former Warriors goalie said he is inspired by Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi “Gigi” Buffon.
“I’m inspired by Buffon, the way he conducts his training sessions and the way he conducts the games, he inspires me and that goalkeeping has nothing to do with age.”
With just one match remaining before the season ends, Sekhukhune trail ex-Warriors striker Cuthbert Malajila’s Royal Kings by three points.
Sekhukhune, also home to the Zimbabwean pair of defender McClive Phiri and striker Walter Musona, is set for a nervy finish against JDR Stars, whose quest for a promotional play-off suffered a blow when they drew 1-1 with Edmore Chirambadare’s Steenberg United, who are fighting for survival in the First Division.
“To be promoted will be amazing but as Sekhukhune United our chairman had a three-year plan, this season was just to save the team from relegation and we continue to work towards our goal to go to PSL.
“But to go to playoffs or anything that comes we will grab it with both hands and we will appreciate the directors of Sekhukhune for what they’ve done for us.
“They’ve sacrificed a lot for us, their support has been amazing,” he said.
