In a disturbing trend of armed robberies, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has reported two significant incidents involving cash theft and violence in recent days.

On October 16, a cash-in-transit vehicle belonging to a private security company was targeted while transporting USD 20,000 from Beitbridge to Mutare.

According to the ZRP, “The crew offered a lift to two passengers at Lutumba Service Station Centre and Machiloni, Beitbridge.”

After dropping the passengers off at Rutenga and Ngundu, the crew discovered that “a metal box containing cash was missing” upon their arrival at Ngundu.

The situation escalated further in Belmont, Bulawayo, on October 15, where seven armed men raided a local steel company.

The robbers, armed with pistols, tied up two security guards and twelve workers using shoe laces. During the incident, one worker was struck on the head with a pick, highlighting the violence of the attack.

The assailants managed to escape with valuables, mobile phones, and a substantial sum of money, including USD 32,500 and R 300.

The ZRP is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as investigations continue into these alarming crimes.
