BREAKING NEWS – For the first time in Zimbabwe’s history since that glorious day when former Prime Minister Ian Smith gave up the country instantly liberating Zimbabwe from oppression in 1979, when fuel supplies to Rhodesia-Zimbabwe were blocked, South African citizens have shut down their border to Zimbabwe.
Scores of tourists were on Friday morning blocked from entering Zimbabwe at Beitbridge border after ZRP cops suddenly barricaded the entire area, causing chaos. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW THE VIDEO…

This came as hundreds of Zimbabweans began protesting the banning of domestic goods from entering the country. Last month the draconian customs authority, ZIMRA began confiscating foods and other goods, introducing abrupt duty and tax rules.
ZimEye.com brings our valued readers live updates as the mayhem continues. LIVE UPDATES CONTINUE BELOW THE PICTURES –

19:00Hrs –  Another building is torched down. Police helpless as protests continue.
18:05Hrs – Two warehouse buildings have been ransacked and burnt down. Protesters nearly in total control of the border post.
15:00Hrs – While protesters on the SA side continue their singing, those on the Zim side continue burning tyres.
14:45Hrs – Hungry ZRP cops (Zim side) watch as furious protesters close down Zimbabwe’s economic lifeline border post, Beitbridge.
14:10Hrs – Gunshots fired onto protesters on the Zim side for nearly 30 minutes
13:06Hrs – Zimbabwe  side protests start
11:15Hrs – Zimra (customs) officials trying to enter South Africa to buy fuel, were chased down by angry South African protesters. They had to seek refuge from their South African counterparts. After a quick meeting with SA officials to obtain protection so that they fill their cars with petrol, they were given passage. A South African business owner is seen in the live ZimEye video update instructing people to continue in the fight until the Zimbabwean government gives up.
1105Hrs – Hundreds of South Africans join in the protest to support Zimbabweans in their plight. It is believed this is due to the massive loss of business due to the Zimra action.
0855Hrs – Tourists (pictured) have been turned away from entering Zim. Who is losing? asked a ZimEye news source.

0845Hrs  – Pakistanis and Indian shop owners in Messina have closed their shops to participate in the protest.
0820Hrs – ZRP cops storm the area to block people from entering the border.
0815Hrs – ANNOUNCEMENT from the Beitbridge Crossborder Transporters Association:
Police in Beitbridge have refused to clear a demonstration planned by residents to protest over the recently introduced ban of importation of a wide range of goods, including groceries and building material, from SA without permits.
Beitbridge residents met 2 days ago and resolved to take to the streets to voice their anger at the move by the gvnt, which is likely to leave thousands of families in the border town without any source of income since survival in the border town is hinged on crossborder activities.
Residents have however resolved to defy the police and go ahead with the protest.
Those who are committed to take part in the protest, meeting point is Dulibadzimu Bus Terminus @ 8:00 this morning.
Those who have passports are adviced to carry them since the battle is most likely to end at the South African side.
South Africans in Musina are gathering @ Factory Shop in Musina at the same time and Beitbridge residents have been invited to the South African side to join the protests that side.
The plan on the SA side is to blockade the border and turn back all trucks and other vehicles carrying goods from Zimbabwe.
The Beitbridge Taxi Association(SA),The Musina Metre Taxi Association and residents in Musina have extended an invitation to the Beitbridge Crossborder Transporters Association and Beitbridge residents who are being refused their right to protest by the hostile and repressive state machinery (ZRP) to join them on the SA side.
Wild cat protests are expected in Musina today by South Africans in the shopping town who have also been deprived of business by the recent import ban by the Zanu pf regime.
Pliz note that this innitiative by Beitbridge residents is not being driven by any political party.
It is a response by ordinary people from across the political devide,as well as the Beitbridge Crossborder Transporters Association which represents over 500 crossborder transporters in Beitbridge.
In the absence of a functioning residents association, the people have taken it upon themself to rise up to the challenge.

  3. What was liberated in 1980 was the paving of the way to put terrorists of the same ilk as Isis in the helm. Destructive pieces of shit . Look show me what the 36 yrs of so called liberation has brought other than the semi-god worship that all and sundry give to Mugabe. the fossil.Like it or not Smith was focused and made Rhodesia Great whilst our so called black shit has made Zimbabwe Ruins. Here was a man who faced real trade embargoes which included fuel imports, food, spare parts, technology, but with zest managed to create industries that produced local goods. Zimphos, then known as Rodia, Sable Chemicals , gold processing plants in Midlands were amongst a myriad of Rhodesis=an industries designed to beat the sanctions and ensure survival of the people between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers. this was a the quest for self sustainance in the face of real sanctions All those industries have now been destroyed in typical fashion by Mugabe who has decided that Fertiliser can be made in China and brought to Zimbabwe by his cohorts, the likes of Msakwa and Mnangagwa During the Smith regime , jobs were guaranteed for any black leaving school whether at Standard 6, Grade 7, Form 2 Form 4 ,Form 6 or University. Never mind that whites were in charge but people never suffered. Those in Tribal Trust Lands were assured of food during droughts. The food was not distributed along partisan lines nor was it the preserve of a few fat cats and their connections. Like him or hate him, Smith was a hero that is why he challenged Robert the fossil to walk with him in First street Harare and see who the people would do instant justice to. Robert the coward declined. Fact
