By Langton Ncube|The Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC said the former head of state Robert Mugabe was better than the present President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

Obert Gutu the MDC-T spokesperson said although Mugabe was a dictator prices of basic commodities were much lower than what they are a few  “days” after Mnangagwa snatched  power from Mugabe.

“ In fact, the situation is now worse than it was during the Mugabe regime. Life is getting very tough for the majority of Zimbabweans and the government appears at sixes and sevens regarding what to do in order to arrest the economic implosion,”Gutu told NewsDay.

Gutu said they did  not see Mnangagwa reviving the economy .

Mnangagwa is however today expected to deliver  his first State of the Nation Address (SONA).

Zimbabweans are anticipating to hear measures the new President has put in place to address the cost of living which seems to be getting worse than under his predecessor, former president Robert Mugabe.

  1. This is the most insincere comparison i have ever heard. Obert Gutu is displaying how shallow minded he is. Mugabe better than ED? Has Obert Gutu forgotten the hell of 2008 when prices doubled every 24 hours and the inflation of that period is in the Guiness Book of records as the second highest of all time. Grow up Obert Gutu. We all know that the current price hike is a sabotage and the authors are obviously known.

  3. It sounds disingenuous for the opposition to say mnangagwa is worse because prices have gone up. I am not supporting Mnangagwa but the economy under Mugabe was dead partly due to artificially controlling prices. To me the measure of success in the economy is job creation not suppressing prices. Give the man a chance and please criticise constructively not just for political gain. I think Mnangagwa would listen to views to build the economy first and foremost.

  4. Gutu, I think you are getting it wrong. I have been a staunch supporter for MDC-T over the years but with the kind of childish mentality you are displaying, you can bid goodbye to my vote. Have we reached the 2008 economic meltdown as yet? How can you compare Mnangagwa and Mugabe yet the former has just been in power for about a month. Mugabe ruled this country for 37 years and destroyed our economy. Surprisingly you have the guts to say life is now worse off than it was during Mugabe’s reign. MDC-T if you continue uttering this nonsense, you will lose your political relevance and ED will bury you come 2018.

Isn’t that the price increases were effected during Mugabe era and that the current wave of price increases is just a continuation of that process? Let us remain focused. Give credit where it deserves and be objective in your criticism.

  5. Was it an announced government decision to raise the prices of basic commodities or it is the work of his enemies in business who did so to undermine the new administration?

  6. Believing in your own propaganda is a very dangerous path a particular movement can take. This is what ZANU PF, like North Korea is doing. You will never succeed in these outdated tactics. There is no way us as investors will pour our money in an economy managed by an undemocratic military junta with a very bad past. We will see after elections what the next step will be. Otherwise let those who want higher risk investments proceed. They will see towards elections as looting becomes rampant and the party starts looking for cash to finance its election programs
