Two people were critically injured when heavy rains pounded Gwanda yesterday totally destroying a mine owned primary school.
Sabiwa Primary Schools at Vumbachikwe Mine in Gwanda had 13 classrooms destroyed by winds that came with the heavy down-pours late yesterday afternoon.
Two people who at the time of writing could not be identified by ZimEye.com were hit by flying roofing material as they made their way past the school.
Officials at the mine said that the school will take a while to be repaired and brought back to use after the destruction.
The damage leaves a worrying situation on what will be done to the nearly 800 children enrolled at the school.
The school which was build in the early sixties, has been a worry with people complaining to the mine management about the state of the dilapidated infrastructure.
A parent who refused to be identified thanked what he called natural justice for destroying the school with the hope that this will force the mine to build a new one. – ZimEye
No immediate comment child could be obtained from the mine management and ministry of education offices.
