ZIMBABWE’s controversial Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana was yesterday arrested over his handling of the “bombing Mugabe property” case which last week led to the arrest of four suspects.
In a development that pours shame on not only Tomana, but the entire justice (prosecution) delivery system, Tomana mysteriously withdrew charges on two of the suspects who are said to be intelligence operatives.
The charges in their entirety are believed to have been doctored and an unknown leader, also of an obscure party was alleged to have plotted to bomb the President’s business premises with the help of three accomplices. The fringe political party leader, Zimbabwe People’s Front political party president Owen Kuchata (34) and three of his colleagues were arrested while allegedly trying to petrol-bomb the First Family’s Alpha Omega Dairy farm in Mazowe. They are Kuchata and Borman Ngwenya (30), Solomon Makumbe (29) and Silas Pfupa (37).
Reports reaching ZimEye.com say Tomana will be charged for abuse office in the case when he appears in court Tuesday.
Tomana is said to have arranged so that the two become state witnesses in the case.
Tomana is of the Mnangagwa faction and his arrest comes within months after he was publicly attacked by First Lady Grace Mugabe as the succession war hots up. He was also attacked by Professor Jonathan Moyo who is reportedly lobbying for the G40 camp. The G40 want Grace to take over from her husband.
