Edinah Masanga | The discontent and disappointment among Zimbabweans with Evan Mawarire, for choosing to remain in South Africa for his own safety, while understandable, it is also hypocritical. It is utmost hypocritical for us to expect Evan Mawarire to die for us while we have not shown that we are ready to die for ourselves. One dead man is a victory for Mugabe not for us.
I am aware that the arrest and sudden exile of Mawarire affected the morale of the movement and disrupted its momentum but, Zimbabwe, we have to be very real and realistic here, the man cannot take chances with this bloodthirsty regime. We know there are other activists in Zimbabwe who are seemingly not have been harmed ( the argument I battled with my friend while chatting last week), but the brutally honest truth is that Mawarire posed a credible, high-level threat to Mugabe’s rule, and history is there to show us what happens to people like that.
The late youthful firebrand Learnmore Jongwe supposedly died under unexplained circumstances while in the custody of the state, and we have speculated a lot about how the ‘suicide’ took place without the guards noticing either the poison or the fact that someone was dying. Feared army general Solomon Mujuru aka Rex Nhongo died in a mysterious fire and when fire engines arrived at the scene they had no water, clearly, someone wanted him to burn to ashes. His wife Joice Mujuru was later purged unceremoniously on accusations of wanting to overthrow Mugabe. Journalist turned activist Itai Dzamara disappeared without a trace after calling for Mugabe to step down. An almost forgotten woman, Rashiwe Guzha, disappeared without a trace after becoming privy to CIO secrets in the nineties, which secrets are alleged to have implicated the presidency.
I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture, in fact, you already know the picture; Mugabe’s left a trail of dead or disappeared people all of whom had either threatened his presidency or opposed it publicly. Young Mawarire, an emotional pastor with a lot of charisma, meaning he is not a battle-hardened politician, cannot stand idle and wait for the unknown to happen. He has an obligation to keep his family safe, his children did not make the choice to be part of this and they need a father. Let’s cut the man some slack.
Mawarire’s safety is of paramount importance but we must not forget that the regime is cognisant of the fact that harassing the movement’s leader into hiding is an effective way to posit him as a coward who has abandoned the people. Their objective being to dent the movement and instil fear into our hearts.
The fact is, Mawarire cannot be any stronger without us. The power is, and has always been, with us. It is us who are fighting this government and it is us who are being fought by this government.
Mawarire’s #ThisFlag movement can only be stronger, and effective if we all become active participants in it. If we shun calls for a stay away and go to work when we know that bond notes are coming to make our life hell, then what else can Mawarire do? Why do you want him to stay in Zimbabwe and get killed for nothing?
The point I am trying to make is that we have to be grateful for what Mawarire has steered up in us, and we must take it and run with it and make change for ourselves. For Mawarire’s vision to be successful, we have to be willing to die with him not for him to die for us.

  5. There are Ndebeles and Shona in the present Zanu PF government so why are you insisting in calling it a Shona government?

  6. We need a mental revolution, a new way of thinking that will lead to new ways of doing, including new ways of leadership.

  8. While the general gist of the text needs to be engaged with, hypocritical is, in my opinion, a strong word. I do not think that Zimbabweans are angry with Evan Mawarire for leaving Zimbabwe, but that he did so without a plan. For me it is a question of responsibility. If you are going to call people to action that can result in – and in many cases has resulted in – danger and harm to those people, you have the responsibility to have a plan. I hope Mr Mawarire has learnt something from recent events concernig the responsibility of leadership that will improve his leadership skills.
Personally I do not think that juniour parliament is the best incubator for leaders who have the well-being of the nation at heart ,as it is the brainchild of a certain system that has proven itself to be extremely toxic to the idea and reality of the nation of Zimbabwe, one of the ways in which it is toxic being in promoting self-interest as the overriding motivation in all endeavours. As such the system of child leadership will certainly manifest certain traits of this toxic system and those who were groomed in it will be tainted unless they realise this and actively work against it.

  9. BREAKING NEWS!! Guys, I have just discovered that “Shona Heaters” is a C10, whose objective is to divert our attention from meaningful comments on happenings on the social medium. How do you think this guy gets the time to respond to EVERY comment that appears on these articles. That is his full time job, thats what he is employed to do. Let us therefore IGNORE him on these platforms and concentrate on contributing to meaningful comments on burning issues of the day, or even plan anything through social media.
    Shona Heaters, wanyangira yaona!

  12. We united with Shonas in the Patriotic Front to get rid of Ian Smith. When the time to eat came, they ditched us for Shona Gukurahundi Mugabe. Now history is repeating itself – they are again crying for unity to fight that very same Mugabe that they ditched Nkomo for. And we know what will happen after that unity once the time to eat comes. Check out Tswangirayis latest strategic repositioning of his fellow Shona home boys Chamisa and Mudzuri. Once bitten twice shy!

  14. As long as there is Shona tribalism as in among numerous other examples, Tswangirayi scoring own goals by sidestepping Khuphe for another Shona to succeed him, Mugabe will stay. He is going nowhere!

  15. Some people are not even worth answering. We are fighting to end this Zanu PF dictatorship but before we are done someone is already itching for a tribal fight that will only throw the whole nation into unnecessary and mindless chaos and blood shed!

  18. Yeah how many times have we heard that one then nothing happens. In 2008 we thought we would have the democratic changes and then nothing happened because MDC failed to get even one reform implemented. And millions of Zimbabweans out there did not even notice because they had no clue what they wanted.
Do you know what you want to happen next?

  20. My quarrel is with the people of Zimbabwe for their naivety. The reason why #ThisFlag appealled to so many people is because of its very simplisitic message and promise. Many people believed that all will be well if “Mugabe fired corrupt ministers”! After 36 years of corrupt and tyrannical rule surely people should have since come to the conclusion by now that it is Mugabe himself who must go. Sadly no, they are still asking for the early 1980s solution; how naive is that!

  21. Gukurahundi is a shona word . Saka unoverenga shona . Even zita rako is well spelt shona . Kkkkkk u ar a simply confused roach .
    Educated …?????? Ooh my …..
Educated ppl will never bite their wives and drink their blood . Injiva is a well known name for madzviti gansters who thrive on robbery ….and u call yourself educated …shame on u . Its not your problem . Your mama used to feed you with her poo poo with her nig fat ass straight onto your mouth . Thts why you are full of shit in your brains and you talk only foul . Usagunge kuti Gukurahundi kutuka …it only reminds us that finally madzviti were humbled in dramatic shed of their blood because of Gwesela the bandit

  22. Redirect this advice to the Shona Gukurahundis who are to this day still revenging for the imagined tribal wars of the 1800s, that never happened.

  23. We expect you to say that coz your name says it . May ndiwe yomi lowo kkkkkk. You are so daft to know kuti madzviti cousins are in sa and bots …..
And you said rightly , numbers matter a lot these days . Its a modern world . Madzviti live the bygone era of knives , knobkerries and violent behaviour . Your forefathers were thugs and raiders …and you still want to do that in this day and age . Kkkkkkkkkkk
Shame on you if you think its a good trait to be a a brave thief or raider . Thanks for the notable applausable social behaviour of the shonas . Ende hapana zbaungatiita . Ungatidii . Makarakashwa kuurawa kunge mapete netuhasha twenyu makaitei . Hapana . Basa kungowawata . Munosiririsa coz most of you madzviti are not educated and you blame shonas for your pea size brains

  25. The truth of the matter is that the endgame is in full swing. It will be too naive to think that Mugabe will run away or resign just after few days of demonstrations. We are prepared for what it takes and will not be pushed to putting the cart before the horse. We are fully aware of what comes first and what follows and so far the endgame execution is on track. I will not say much, but suffice to say that Mugabe and his ZANU PF will fall and we will record this as a heroic fall. Watch this space.

  29. Sir/Madam,
I am compelled to give you advice. You seem to have so much bitterness in you. Bitterness is not only dangerous to your spiritual being, but also comes with physical ailments such as heart attack, high blood pressure and arthritis. You really need professional help. The hurting you have inside you will not only affect your enemies, but also the ones you love around you. I am not being sarcastic or anything, but am giving you real advice which you can take or leave. I am sure you have or know a pastor. Go to that pastor, and tell him about your bitterness. Yes, you could have been be hurt badly, but God is faithful he will get you delivered through a man or woman of God. I hope you take this advice positively. Thank you.

  33. The perennial problem has always been the fact that Shonas are natural cowards. This is why they depend on numbers. None of them can stand alone like Mthwakazi people do. They always have to hide behind numbers.
Where ever they settle – whether in Mthwakazi, South Africa, Botswana etc, instead of building relationships with the locals, a Shona looks for other Shonas for company so that they increase in numbers, because they lack self-confidence at the individual level.
If there are no Shonas around, he will recruit them from afar and in no time you will see hundreds of them. That is why everybody hates them!!
