State Media| In a shocking incident that has left Chirumanzu villagers shell-shocked, two black mambas attacked and killed a nine year old boy in the area, raising witchcraft speculations in the area.
The nine year old Chirumanzu boy was attacked by the venomous reptiles while herding cattle ,according to local villagers. The boy succumbed to the snake bites within 30 minutes.
Villagers are now living in fear following the boy’s death and superstition has become rife to the pont that it is said the dreaded reptiles are daily seen at an anthill, and several people are said to have been chased by the snakes. Villagers are now appealing to the Parks and Wildlife Department to immediately act on the matter.
A local traditional healer Mbuya Tsikirai said the snakes were associated with witchcraft.
“The two snakes are associated with witchcraft and it is not normal for two snakes to bite one person at once. There is someone involved in witchcraft in the villagers and we must exorcise the spirit before the snakes strike again. Attempts to kill the snakes physically will not work,” said Mbuya Tsikirai.
A local villager also claimed he was nearly attacked by the vicious reptiles but he ran for dear with the snakes pursuing him.

  1. I suspect the snakes have a nest nearby, or young ones, that’s why they are aggressive. If they are breeding they attack anything which comes near,so villagers stay away, there is no witchcraft there!

  2. These London based reporters using hearsay and National Geographic pics to report about Chirumuhanzu happenings can never give us truthful and balanced reporting

  3. You are right. It appears to be a profile picture. However steve’s explanation is to the point. One being bitten by two black mambas is possible because this kind of snake leaves as “casal” husband and wife and they have a marked territory which they protect. Invaders are attacked and as soon as you run away and you are out of their marked zone they leave you

  4. also saw the story on ZBC TV last night, shame the boy is gone just like that! National Parks what are you doing ?

  5. The snake is a cobra. Note the black skin….. mamba is grey. Note the pointed head. The mamba has a head looking like a COFFIN! A mamba is sleek so it can move with speed but this cobra is fat.

  6. The snake is a cobra. Note the black skin….. mamba is grey. Note the pointed head. The mamba has a head looking like a COFFIN! A mamba is sleek so it can move with speed but this cobra is fat.

  7. Where actually did this happen Chirumhanzu is too big? You are a liar? Did you go to school?

  8. Fully agree with you. This type of reporting leaves a lot to be desired. The picture shown is not of a black mamba but a cobra. A black mamba is not black but is black inside its mouth. It appears all the report is aimed at is o point at witchcraft instead of giving more evidence based facts. Indeed it is rare for two snakes to bite one person at the same time, so who was there to witness this? This type of sensational reporting will in the long run result in this ZimEye becoming a gossip tabloid

  9. The press has a long way to go before it can satisfy the appetite of readers. The details do not emerge as to how the boy was bitten, how the discovery was made, any attempt done to ferry him to a nearby clinic, and so on and so forth. That is the expectation of the readers, to know about something in detail once it is introduced in the columns.
    Disgusting….
