Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| Villagers in Bikita were shocked to the core when a local woman was caught stark naked performing rituals at a neighbour’s doorstep last week.
In a suspected case of witchcraft in Matonhodze village, Spiwe Chaitwa was caught naked at Cornelius Chikunda’s hut moving around while stark naked. The nude Chaitwa was spotted around 3am by one Godfrey Tabvaneyi a local villager who had woken up to go for prayers. Chaitwa was spotted attempting to place some concoctions at the doorstep of Chikunda’s hut. Chikunda’s wife said she was alerted by Tabvaneyi that there was a nude woman loitering in her yard and she woke up and informed other villagers. “The incident is very strange and we suspect the woman was performing rituals at our doorstep. We are still in a state of shock.
The woman spent more than two hours in our yard and we had to inform the police from Bikita who whisked her away,” said a shocked Chengeto. Masvingo Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said they were informed the woman was mentally challenged. However villagers in the area claimed Chaitwa got divorced because of witchcraft .
In Zimbabwe it is prohibited to accuse someone of being involved in witchcraft and Chaitwa’s case has left the local community bemused.
