“…ARISE ZIMBABWE ARISE…” argues Professor Richard M Simango in an opinion column. “RISE ZIMBABWE RISE FOR A VICTORY. Let’s all united to fight for a free Democratic New Zimbabwe. Let’s stop to fight within ourselves but to divert all our anger and effort to Zanu-PF. United we stand. Divided we fall.”
The rhetoric is the easy bit the devil is in the detail. It is easy to say take the first step and move forward but unless we know where we are going we will just be running around like headless chicken.
“Take tangible or visible Action for the Dictator to feel our present,” advised our Professor Simango.
“MDC-T is the only Excellent Political Party that can bring Democracy in Zimbabwe which is denied by failing Zanu-Pf party. MDC-T is not the first opposition political party, but, is the first popular strong opposition party to disturb and gives Mugabe sleepless nights.”
Never mind the sleepless nights, it is the democratic change the nation is after. MDC had the golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and bring real and lasting democratic change in Zimbabwe during the GNU; all the party had to do was to implement the reforms. After five years MDC failed to get even one reform implemented. Not one!
Even if one accepts that Professor Simango as with many other Zimbabweans, was no paying attention during the GNU years and thus failed to notice that MDC leaders had sold-out – they accepted President Mugabe’s gravy train bribes in return for doing nothing regarding implementing the reforms – the Professor has had two years now to review what happened during the GNU. There is a mountain of irrefutable evidence that MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and sell-out.
So Professor Simango is disregarding (he did not deny it but just disregarded) the mountain of irrefutable evidence that MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and sell-out to stick to his long-held position drummed into his head by the likes of Nelson Chamisa that MDC is a party of “excellence”.
In his book Animal Farm, George Orwell encapsulated the immovable single-track mindedness of Professor Simango in his character Boxer, the stupid horse. Boxer took weeks to learn the first four letters of the alphabet when he finally moved on to the next four letters he promptly forgot the first four!
“Comrade Napoleon is always right!” was Boxer’s motto just as Professor Simango’s motto is “MDC is a party of excellence!”
After the failure by MDC to get even one reform implemented in five years of the GNU SADC Head of State, International Donors and anybody else with any brain finally gave up on MDC and accepted they will never accomplish anything of substance.
Since the July 2013 rigged elections, the EU has restarted its re-engagement overture with President Mugabe and Zanu PF in earnest not because the EU was not aware of the blatant vote rigging that took place. They were aware of it. They are going ahead with the re-engagement because they accept that opportunity to stop the vote rigging was lost and as long as MDC remains the only opposition, they will never force Zanu PF to implement any meaningful reforms. In short therefore, the EU is re-engaging with Zanu PF because the latter is the only game on the Zimbabwe political stage!
It took 20 years for many Zimbabweans to accept that President Mugabe was a corrupt and murderous tyrant. For the last 15 years the nation has been fighting to remove him from power but failed because those championing the democratic change, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, have proven to be corrupt and incompetent. Still the nation is stuck with MDC as the opposition because most people will not accept the reality that MDC is anything else other than “A party of excellence!”
According to a recent report Zimbabwe is now the second poorest nation on earth, second to the DRC. When the nation attained its independence 35 years ago it was considered a middle income nation on par with Bolivia; we have fallen a long way in 35 years for a nation that is not at war!
Our war is not a physical one but a mental one; we must have the highest percentage of the population of people with Boxer, the horse’s, immovable single-track mindedness. It is people like Professor Simango’s immovable Boxer mentality that is winning us the rat race to the bottom, the poorest nation on earth spot.

There some people who will never believe that Tsvangirai is corrupt and
incompetent not because he is not but because they are like Boxer, they
have decided that he is the best thing that ever happen to Zimbabwe and
their minds is now a closed book! We must not let these simpletons drag
the whole nation into yet another nightmare of MDC blunders.
Tsvangirai and his friends should have resigned for what they did and now they must not be allowed to hold public office ever again!
If you think Tsvangirai will dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship then you must explain why he has not done so, especially during the GNU when he had all the chance to do so. In all your wittering you have singularly failed in doing that. If you think someone like me will still follow you regardless, then you are even more naïve than Boxer the horse!
Napoleon was a murderous tyrant who got many things hopeless wrong and Boxer saying “Comrade Napoleon is always right!” did not change the facts on the ground.
Similarly Tsvangirai has made one blunder after another the biggest blunder being his failure to implement the democratic reforms. He has already proven to be so corrupt and incompetent; it is clear Zanu PF will always be miles ahead of him, he will never ever get any meaningful reforms implemented.
The only people who still want Tsvangirai as leader are those who have completely failed to see him for the corrupt and incompetent idiot he is; These people are as stupid and slow witted as the horse Boxer. It would be irresponsible for those who see Tsvangirai for the corrupt and incompetent idiot he is to let the stupid ones decide the nation’s fate.
The real challenge here is to make sure that the Boxer single-track minded amongst our people understand that Tsvangirai will never accomplish anything, that he is finished and why that is so.
After 15 years of looking to Tsvangirai to deliver change it is being realistic and pragmatic to accept that he is corrupt and incompetent to force Zanu PF to end the dictatorship.
People like you must be Zanu PF double agents telling the gullible MDC supporters that Tsvangirai is their man for change knowing only too well that he will never deliver anything. Well you can fool the naive and gullible MDC supporters but you are certainly not fooling SADC, the international community or are you fooling any Zimbabwean who have have accepted that Tsvangirai is corrupt and incompetent.
Is this Professor Simango a real professor? But come to think of Zimbabwe has a number of Professors who have to be just as brainless as this one!
The people of Zimbabwe gave Tsvangirai and his MDC friend 15 years to deliver democratic change and he has clearly failed. During the GNU, MDC had all the time and opportunity to implement the reforms and thus end the Zanu PF dictatorship.
Raila Odinga in Kenya who was in a similar GNU implemented all the reforms and
Kenyans had their first free and fair elections. The only reason Tsvangirai failed to implement even one reform is because he and his MDC friends are corrupt and incompetent.
After 15 years of trying the same corrupt and incompetent MDC only a fool would
still want them to champion democratic change particularly when getting them
implemented this time will be a real challenge!
It is one thing for one or two individuals to try the same corrupt and incompetent MDC again after 15 years expecting a different result but for the whole nation to do it is cause for concern!
We probably have to hit rock bottom before people finally accept that MDC are no good; we are nearly there, only DRC to beat now! The only price to be collected for winning the rat race is increased economic hardships and that it will even harder to climb up again!
It is mind boggling indeed that when all effort and time should be directed at dismantling the ZPF dictatorship there are others with the time to direct that on pro democracy forces and yet claim they are in that camp! Wake up and smell the coffee Patrick Guramatunhu! All other progressive Zimbos are ready to through away any differences in the pro democracy movement for the sake of change, beware of the ‘Nyati’ syndrome!!
