FORMER war veterans’ leader Jabulani Sibanda has accused President Robert Mugabe of treating him harshly compared to other alleged supporters of former Vice-President Joice Mujuru and suggested his persecution was tribally motivated.
Sibanda was arrested last year for allegedly saying Mugabe and First Lady Grace Mugabe planned a bedroom coup. His case for allegedly undermining the authority of the President is pending in the courts.
However, Sibanda told NewsDay in an interview that those accused of playing a leading role in the alleged plot to kill Mugabe had not been arrested.
“I do not know whether he is in charge of his faculties even. I do not want to believe that Mugabe is a tribalist; because Nicholas Goche who is accused of having sought to hire snipers to kill Mugabe is sitting at his house, but Sibanda who is accused of insulting the President is locked up with no bail.
“Is it selective justice that a Ndebele who allegedly insulted him is jailed?” He said it was difficult to get justice at the courts and in Zanu PF.
“The same guys in charge of the party disciplinary committee are not affording people the right to be heard,”he said.
“They are running the courts at State level and are in charge of the justice delivery system as well. Should I then have confidence in them if they are already trampling on my rights at party level?”
Sibanda was removed from his post of Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association chairperson after Mugabe threatened to set ‘his army’ against him.
The outspoken Sibanda said he was a victim of Mugabe’s rule after nine members of his party were killed during Gukurahundi.
The Gukurahundi massacres reportedly claimed the lives of more than 20 000 villagers in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces.
“Nine members of my family were killed by the Fifth Brigade,” he said.
“I went through torture that would have brought down the Kariba electricity grid, but I stomached that and continued to work for the revolution.
“Surely somebody must recognise that. I worked for Zanu PF for the sake of peace alone.”
He said he was convinced, Mugabe knew “in his heart” that whatever accusations were being levelled against the Mujuru camp were lies.
“The thing is this is a façade, Mugabe knows it is a lie that Mujuru did not do anything, knows Goche never sought to kill him and also knows that Jabulani did not insult him,” he said. Newsday

  1. Jabulani Sibanda is a thug who is now using the gukurahundi issue to drive his own tribal agenda, that is fact!

  2. Reality check …is there anyone independent who can actually vouch that Jabu indeed lost 9 close relatives??!!

  3. Isn’t it very ironic that you want the Gukurahundi issue kept alive but you have been very quick to forgive WHITE perpetrators like Roy Bennet, Iain Kay etc who also perpetrated atrocities against defenceless civilians e.g. at Chibondo??!!

  4. Wilbert, yes you are correct that robert mugabe has made life very difficult for all Zimbabweans but please do not try and trivialise the gukurahundi period, lest one day in the future you will be accused of being a gukurahundi deniar.
I don’t agree with jabu on many issues but the man is said to have lost 9 members of his family and your comments say a lot about you. FYI l saw the gukurahundi happen and l survived it when we in matebeleland and middle lands were on our own. One day in the near future this issue will be revisited and accurate records made public and a closure will be made.

  5. Njelele, although I don’t agree with Jabu but for you to say he must not raise the gukurahundi is wishful thinking on your part. Gukurahundi is not dead but the issue is alive. Remember the issue of gukurahundi is not about Shona vs Ndebele but it’s about zanu pf acts of genocide. Why are you defensive about the issue. We want justice. Tables will turn and one day justice will be served, remember the victims of nazi German and Rwanda?

  6. Who is Jabulani after all ? How did he become war veterans leader ? He is a Mugabe made puppet and he will just go the same way he came to be in the limelight. The way he was removed tells you that he had not been elected in the first place. The way he talks shows you that he was only being used but kept in the loop as far as information on how ZANU operates is concerned. He faces the same fate of those who have tried to be more ZANU than its originators. There is no way you can raise the ZANU fist and remain yourself. Inqindi yeZANU iyaloya ! There is no way you can shout “Pamberi” and remain normal.Kuyazila lokho ! Silambe over !

  7. Sibanda is a thug just as Mugabe is a tyrant; to accuse Mugabe of being tribal is nonsense because he made life a living hell for all Zimbabweans regardless of the tribe. Similarly Sibanda is a thug who has made life very difficult to all Zimbabweans regardless of the tribe.
Sibanda is playing the tribal card because he just wants to inflame the tribal hatred. We must not allow him to win!

  8. He said he was convinced, Mugabe knew “in his heart” that whatever accusations were being levelled against the Mujuru camp were lies.
Jabu you created this monster which is now devouring you…another thing one needs to have the heart before one can interrogate it,,,,

  9. Jabulani Sibanda appears schizophrenic after loosing a base that gave him political name and rise from being a social nonentity! It is ZANUPF that gave him the platform to bark up the ladder. After being expelled, he is now seeking relevance by motor mouthing, to the extent of going to hug MDCT leadership in order to attract Western donor funds. The same applies to the politically dislodged Temba Mliswa. Both are barking in an attempt to rekindle the fading sounds from the now tired Mutasa/Gumbo political corner. Meanwhile Mai Mujoy remains politically taciturn! Given the confused opposition politics in the country, the political market for the opposition appears difficult for them even if they try to form a new party. Margie Dongo recoiled in her political ruin(dongo in Shona) and only barks occasionally to attract the media . lest she is considered politically buried in a self created oblivion! For Sibanda to try to raise Gukurahundi and tribal politics now after religiously and over zealously supporting ZANUPF and its leader for years , only shows his political confusion and opportunity seeing from the sinking opposition outfit! He can be advised to launch his own still born party and ask the big mouth Misihai -Mushonga to be his Sec Gen!

  10. abangane benu beZanu bonaba … did you think the rest of mthwakazi are fools??

  11. Jabu Never think that a lion is an ox or that a leopard is sheep. Revolution what kind of a revolution? Is it a revolution to force peasants to walk dozens of kilometres to come to a meeting that you address having spaciously and comfortably driven to that venue yourself? Even now Jabulani still sounds bewildered and pained by the sudden unexpected loss of glory. ZanuPf has always been evil yesterday, today and forever. Even their riches suddenly evaporate. What you have swallowed during a meal with them is poison. Pray to quickly die before the evil system ejects you. you may be buried at Hell ‘s Acre called “the Heroes Acre”. Close your eyes to this reality to your own peril!
