Police Brutality in action 1
Riot police in Bulawayo today are reported to have savagely attacked an unidentified defenseless disabled female vendor at the Large City Hall gate.
Protesters had gathered ready to roll out #ZimShutdown protests.
She was selling her wares at the entrance and was not part of the demonstrators, reports say. This is not the first time overzealous riot police have attacked defenseless citizens, Lilian Chinyerere Shumba was brutally assaulted by the police as she sat outside the Harare Magistrates’ Court last Friday.
She told MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai during a surprise visit to her home that, up to now, she was still trying to come to terms with the motive behind her attack.
“The young boy (police officer) kicked me three times and I was hit three times by a baton for nothing, just because I was wearing red clothes. It’s very unfortunate that the young cops thought they were going to silence me, I will not be,” she said.
As earlier reported, freelance photographer Crispen Ndlovu was arrested with Alfred Dzirutwe, Lwandlelubanzi Ndebele, Plaxedis Denge, Hampton Maphosa, Lenny Kuzwarira and Mthokozisi Ncube.
Ndlovu was arrested while taking photos of the police assaulting Dzirutwe.
According to reports, about 15 riot police surrounded and clobbered Dzirutwe and assaulting the unidentified woman with batons.
Dzirutwe suffered two deep cuts on his head while the disabled woman who has previously suffered a stroke, was assaulted on her affected right hand.
