Ray Nkosi | Presidential hopeful and former government minister Dr Nkosana Moyo says Zimbabweans do not need a grand coalition and can decide effectively on a choice of many candidates who to lead them in 2018.

Taking part in a ZimEye LIVE BLAST debate moderated by veteran Brussels based journalist Grace Kwinjeh, Moyo said; “This argument that you need a grand coalition in order to win assumes that Zimbabweans are not smart enough to make a choice, and I believe that if you gave Zimbabweans a 100 candidates they would make a choice.”

Moyo a rare minister resigned from government after being appointed by President Robert Mugabe who soon after the resignation called him a coward, though this has not deterred him from fighting for the rights of Zimbabweans.

Said Moyo,” Zimbabweans can make a choice, we need to remind ourselves how the last GNU happened, in fact let’s start by recognizing that the GNU is a misnomer there has never been a government of national unity but there has been a coalition of political parties and that coalition represented a minority of Zimbabweans.”

Moyo who will challenge both Tsvangirai and Mugabe in 2018 goes further to say, “On the basis of how many people voted, that coalition was again controlled by Zanu because actually Zanu lost the elections.”

He gives Kenya’s flawed process as an example.

  1. Unfortunately he is soon going to learn that Zimbabweans are not fools. He is going to go down the same route as Egypt Dzine… and others like Mutambara who have dissapeared into political oblivion

  2. Is not going to be easier cause you guys running to other countries to get green pastures

  3. The big problem that Zimbabwe is facing at the moment is politics of entitlement, which was begun by our liberation parties. They were relevant by then, but now look what they have done to us.It is 37 years ever since Zanu-PF has been ruling the roost in Zimbabwe and they came to power through politics of entitlement.Because Mugabe and Zanu-PF fought for our independence therefore Mugabe was the automatic candidate to be our next president. The same principle is being applied to Tsvangirai, because he was the first politician from the opposition ranks to defeat Mugabe, then that qualifies him to be the next leader of the country. That is, he has a huge following as an MDC leader. As true as this may sound, have we not yet learned a lot about Tsvangirai that should worry us if he becomes the next president of Zimbabwe? Tsvangirai has shown that he as some corrupt tendencies, he has a penchant of being autocratic. His economic management knowledge is very questionable. We know he is a crowd puller, but we are no longer interested in crowds here, we are interested in a figure who will rescucitate the Zimbabwe economy.I doubt if Tsvangirai would do that, he is too fixated at becoming the next president of Zimbabwe and nothing else.I am very doubtful if Zimbabwe really needs a figure like Tsvangirai. If he is to be elected, that would be another big mistake that Zimbabweans would make.Zimbabwe needs a technocrat, a modern scholar who understands the intricacies that are driving the modern economies and in my humble view, that person is not Morgan. He can be rewarded for his past efforts by being appointed a minister in one of the ministries that would be under the new administration.

  4. My dear Zanu PF outfits come in all disguises, they are some on this site who are encouraging the opposition to contest flawed elections knowing that Zanu PF will rig the vote again!

  5. Advise Dr Moyo to join the grand coalition to contest flawed elections for the sake of winning a few gravy train seats that Zanu PF gives away. MDC lost the 2013 and got “some seats in parliament”. But what good has that been to the nation as the economic meltdown has got even worse and the political paralysis deepened?

Zimbabwe is in a serious economic and political mess we want free and fair elections if we are ever going to get out of the mess. We can either continue contesting flawed elections which Zanu PF will rig and, yes, the opposition will get a few gravy train seats. Or we can demand the implementation of reforms and refuse to take part in these meaningless elections. After 37 years of this madness it is obvious to some what the right choice is but clearly the choice in not so obvious to the insane who are used to repeating the same thing over and over again hoping for a different result!

It is said that insanity is hereditary; poor Zimbabwe, she is stuck in this hell-hole!

  6. You do not need a degree in anything to understand that an election in which people are frog-marched to vote are not free and fair elections!

  7. So you think all those Dr, Professor, Nurses, Tsvangirais, Bitis, Ncubes, etc. “with the people. living the lives Zimbabweans are living” who are not living on “buy one and get one free” are not cowards there to exploit the people? Then tell why did Tsvangirai, Biti, Ncube and the rest of the MDC leaders fail to get even one democratic reform implemented? They had five years of the GNU to do it!

For your own information Tsvangirai and company contested the 2013 elections although it was clear the vote would be rigged just because they wanted the few gravy train seats Zanu PF offers as bait. They said they will not contest any more elections until reforms are implemented in 2014 but have since flip-flopped on that for the same reason – the bait gravy train seats!

“Tsvangirai ndi baba!” Baba vama sell-outs! He sold-out on reforms during the GNU in return for the $4 million Highlands mansion. He is now starving in there, an example of one living in a mansion on zero income. Saves him right for selling out!

  8. They have failed as you say which is proof they were doing something, WHAT DID NKOSANA MOYO DO? DOLOLO! Failure does not mean lack of progress.
And you are saying Nkosana will stop the ‘frog marching’? how?? Your eyes are open in the dark dear No. You aint seeing anything except that figment of your imagination you call ‘vision’ its all talk and no action!

If you have been on this forum long enough you would know whether I am CIO or not.But like Nkosana ‘Mabvongodze’ Moyo you pop up hear well informed in trash ideas. Tairohwa muri kumhiriko garaiko hatikudii netwuPhilosophy twenyu twemaFacebook. Ibvai muti bvire kumhepo!

  9. What “ground work” has Tsvangirai and the rest in the opposition done? They have failed to get even one reforms implemented and so the people will once again be frog-marched to vote for Zanu PF as we have seen in recent by-elections.

Tsvangirai was in the GNU for five years and he fail to implement even one reforms. The man is corrupt and incompetent how anyone still considers him presidential material only goes to show why we are stuck in this mess – we have people who simply refuse to open their eyes!

It is also possible that you are CIO, here to do your uttermost to convince the opposition that with the grand coalition they will win the elections no matter what! The same dirty trick worked in 2013 and it is clearly working now! Fogmaster, a good name for one here to create a fog of confusion in the opposition camp!

  10. In the March 2008 vote President Mugabe lost to Tsvangirai’s 73%, by his own admission. However, because Zanu PF is in total control of ZEC, the body tasked to do the counting, it ordered a six week long recount and Tsvangirai’s win was whittled down to a mere 47% – to enough to avoid the run-off. In the July run-off President Mugabe “declared war” on the people as Tsvangirai himself admitted. Mugabe overturned Tsvangirai’s earlier 73% majority to a landslide 84% victory. The people were frog-marched to vote for Mugabe and they did.

Zanu PF has since devised many way of rigging the vote; corrupting the voters’ roll, making sure the electorate only get to hear from Zanu PF and the opposition is completely shut out especial in the public media, use the carrot and stick to force the people to vote for the party, Zanu PF continues to loot billions of dollars to bankroll its political activities whilst the opposition have no resources, etc.

Yes, Kenya’s electoral process is flawed but nothing compared to Zimbabwe’s process; Zanu PF has a licence to rig the vote and it is naive, to say the least, to expect the regime to rig the vote and lose the election! Anybody who is anybody, even the corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders have since admitted they need to boycott the elections until meaningful reforms are implemented to stop the vote rigging.

The only reason opposition politicians continue to contest the flawed elections is to win the few gravy train seats Zanu PF has been giving away as bait. Senator David Coltart has admitted this in his recent book.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” explained Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

I have listened to all Dr Nkosana Moyo has had to say, he has failed to explain why he too is going to contest flawed elections other than offer the usual feeble excuses why he is contesting. He too is after the bait gravy train seats, he just does not have the guts to admit it!

  11. COWARD , MBWENDE, VANA MUCHEKADZAFA…….RUNNING AWAY WHEN THE HEAT GETS HOTTER….HIDING IN DIASPORA MUCHIDYA MA GET ONE GET FREE…..GIVING THE SUFFERING PPLE YOUR BK MAKING NOISE ON SOCIAL MEDIA. 12. Nkosana Moyo is one of our best seasoned politicians… you need to be an intellectual to fully understand ton of thought.. kudos

  13. loan offer
Do you need an urgent loan we offer worldwide loan to who in need of loan the business opportunity you having being looking for is here again. email us now at: [email protected]

  14. with all due respect this time you seem out of touch, we all know that had there been 2 parties in the election that led to the GNU then Tsvangirai would have been president. i do not understand why having more candidates with a fair amount of supporters will lead to the defeat of zanu pf unless of course you mean that people “will” as always vote zanpf into power.

  15. I am surprised that such an intelligent man can arrive at a conclusion that is far removed from reality!! There is no way that a a new start-up political party can win an election in Zimbabwe. You will need the backing of big names that are already known to have any chance of garnering significant votes. Simba Makoni only managed to get 8% of the national vote even though he was a fairly big name. Tendai Biti, Elton Mangoma and Welshman Ncube thought they were big enough but they realised that it is not a simple thing to garner political support in Zimbabwe. I would have expected Dr Nkosana Moyo to have done his research before making his conclusions. As things stand there are only three candidates to talk about: Robert Mugabe of Zanu PF, Morgan Tsvangirai of MDC -T and Joice Mujuru of the NPP. All the other parties must seek to join one of these if they harber any hopes of stacking a claim in the national political space. I would advise Dr Nkosana Moyo to join the coalition invloving MDC-T, NPP and Tendai Biti’s Party. Even though this coalition is going to lose, at least they will get some seats in parliament!!!

  16. Nkosana Moyo needs to sober up and think straight! There is no way an independent presidential candidate will make any reasonable inroads into this 2018 race. In order to continue to be highly rated, or even over rated, he needs to be with the coalition of the willing………watch this space!

  17. He is probably a ZANU PF outfit, anyone who really understands the suffering of people in Zimbabwe cannot utter such rubbish. We will see you in 2018, you’ll probably get one vote which is yourself. Tired of these CIO’s on Mugabe’s personal payroll.

  18. Bullshit Nkosana Moyo!
You are comfortably tucked up in the diaspora while the ‘Grand Coalition’ is doing the groundwork and you have the cowardly temerity to rubbish the efforts? Bull nonsense wena gwalandini!
