Stanely Goreraza | The most feared people in Zimbabwe were the CIO also know as The Presidents Office. They were infamous for kidnapping, beating, torturing, and killing ordinary Zimbabweans for things such as saying Mr Mugabe is old.
On November 15 last year they met their match. The Zimbabwean Army, whom they accuse of hunting, kidnapping, beating, torturing and even killing them.
Mr Mugabe never complained when his men in suits disappeared, tortured or killed an ordinary Zimbabwean because they did it all for him. If a member of the CIO was arrested and convicted for something like say murder or attempted murder like in the cases of Patrick Kombayi and Rashiwe Guzha, Mr Mugabe invoked the Presidential Pardon and the murderers walked away scott free. The same he did in 2002 after hundreds of Zanupf supporters were arrested for political violence. He Pardoned them and the justice system had no choice but to let them go.
The CIO were no friends of the Zimbabwean people. They were like crocodiles, snakes and lions. An encounter with them was life threatening, not something anyone looked forward too.
On the 15th of November last year not a single ordinary Zimbabwean was killed or beaten up or tortured. Ordinary Zimbabweans were safe and had absolutely nothing to fear as the Army was targeting the hated CIO who surrounded the people like a prison wall. Ordinary Zimbabweans had pictures taken with the Army and their tanks, which the murdering CIO were hiding from.
For the first time in 37 years Zimbabweans came out of hiding and the CIO ran into hiding. Zimbabweans were safe but the CIO was not safe. The tanks protected ordinary Zimbabweans who expressed their delight and joy through celebrations on the streets.
The people were proud of the Army and the Army proudly performed their main duty to Zimbabwe, protection of the Zimbabwean people.
There was no CIO to kill those who wanted to say Mugabe must go and it was said loud and in so many ways by just so many people. There was no riot police, gassing people. People said what they had wanted to say so much for 37 years but were stopped by the murderous CIO.
Mr Mugabe wants sympathy for the CIO and himself.
But sympathy was and is with the Army who sympathized with the people.
Sorry Mr Former President but noone cares.
