A Zanu PF activist who teamed up with fellow ruling party youths and assaulted an NGO worker was last week arrested and prosecuted for the crime.

The Zanu PF activist, Matora Masiiwa assaulted Abel Mauchi, a Catholic Commission for Peace and Justice worker two weeks ago.

Masiiwa accused Mauchi of spying on the ruling party activities in Gutu District.

Masiiwa and his team also ordered Mauchi to surrender his voter registration slip and he declined.

The incident happened at Manga Business Centre where Masiiwa and a group of Zanu PF youths were drinking beer.

Masiiwa and one Pedzisai Manzunzu appeared before Gutu Magistrate Edwin Marecha facing assault charges last week.

Masiiwa was remanded in custody pending continuation of trial next week.
