By Paul Nyathi| Popular activist Pastor Evan Mawarire has declared his interest to contest in this year’s harmonised elections.

In a brief Facebook post on Tuesday morning, Mawarire declared that he will be contesting as City of Harare Councillor for ward 17 in Mount Pleasant.

The popular #thisflag activist who at one time mobilised the entire country to a mass action against former President Robert Mugabe’s government declared that he will be contesting under a new political arrangement of independent candidates called People’s Own Voice (POVO).

Mawarire said that the movement will be launched at a ceremony at the Harare Gardens on Thursday.

Mawarire did not disclose who the other members of the grouping are.
