The late MDC T leader, Morgan Tsvangirai’s sister, Miriro (47) who died Friday had been discharged from Parirenyatwa Hospital due to the ongoing nurses’ strike, a development which could have contributed to her death.
According to her brother in an interview with a local publication, Miriro was asthmatic and had heart complications.
“She died at home on Friday after being discharged from Parirenyatwa Hospital due to the strike by nurses,” her brother Manasa told The Standard.
“She was asthmatic and had heart complications. She was admitted at Parirenyatwa Hospital and we took her home when the government asked people to withdraw their relatives from hospitals following the strike by health workers.
Her situation deteriorated after we withdrew her from hospital leading to her death at home Friday night,” said Manasa.
The Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) has since called off the strike calling on its membership to report for duty tomorrow (Monday).
The union of nurses cited politicization of the strike.
However the ZINA revealed that government had not honoured its promise to pay the striking nurses US $17.1 million.
“We are calling off the strike to pave way for re engagement with the employer,” the ZINA said in a statement.
