While others are celebrating victory following the just ended Zanu Pf’s primary elections, several party heavyweights have been shown the exit and will not be contesting the forthcoming harmonised polls.
Zanu Pf National Chairperson and Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Oppah Muchinguri lost the bid to represent Nyanga in the Women’s quota after her opponent, Joyce Bukuta Hamandishe romped to victory.
Industry and Commerce minister, Mike Bimha who is also the sitting legislator for Chikomba West lost the primary elections to Dr John Mangwiro by a whooping 2 228 votes. Dr Mangwiro garnered 3 839 votes against Minister Bimha’s 1 611.
In Mhangura, former Lands Minister, Douglas Mombeshora lost to Previous Chinhamo Masango while in Beitbridge West, sitting legislator Metrine Mudau also lost to Ruth Maboyi Ncube.
Minister in Charge of Public Service in the President’s Office, Simbarashe Mumbengegwi lost to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s close ally, Larry Mavima in the Zvishavane Runde Senatorial poll.
Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs Minister, Abednico Ncube lost to former ZBC journalist Omphile Marupi in the Gwanda South primaries.
Biata Nyamupinga also lost her bid to represent Goromonzi West in the forthcoming elections to Energy Mutodi.
In Mutare West, Teedzayi Muchimwe defeated party heavy weight, Christopher Mushohwe who is the Minister of State in the President’s Office Responsible for National Scholarships
Former Cabinet Minister and Zanu-PF Secretary for Legal Affairs, Paul Munyaradzi Mangwana’s bid to represent Chivi Central also failed after he lost to Ephraim Gwanongodza.
In the Zvishavane Runde primary elections, Zanu-PF Youth League Deputy Secretary Lewis Matutu lost by more than 3 000 votes to Dumezweni Mawite Mpofu.
Vice President General (retired) Constantino Chiwenga’s mother-in-law, Helga Mubaiwa’s entry into mainstream politics hit a brick wall after she lost to Munyaradzi Maworesa Kashambe in Seke.
