Various church leaders have expressed disappointment at the legalising of mbanje by the government of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe’s Pastor Blessing Makwara said: “Was the legalising of mbanje presented for public debate?

How many users of mbanje for medicinal purposes have been documented to warrant the national promulgation of the statutory instrument?

We will soon witness an escalation of drug abuse and addiction at an alarming rate in churches and communities, ” he said.

A Masvingo based church leader also said:

“The legalising of mbanje is problematic as many may use it for recreational – rather than medical purposes.”
