By Talent Gondo| A Harare business who is in the transport industry died yesterday after being shot by unknown people at his home in Avondale.
The man, whose name has been withheld until his next of kin have been advised was allegedly shot by robbers who are said to have escaped with US $12 000.
The business man reportedly died on his way to the hospital after staff at Malbereign clinic refused to attend to him asking for a police report.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the death and said investigations were ongoing.
“The ZRP would like to confirm the fatal shooting of a local bus operator in Avondale Monday morning,” he said.
“We are however still investigating the circumstances to the fatal killing and the wife of the deceased is assisting police with investigations.”
Accounting events on the fateful day, a relative of the deceased revealed that members of the neighbourhood committee who were on duty said they heard gunshots and they rushed to surround the house anticipating that the robbers would come out.
However, no one came out until police arrived at the scene.
“Maids who were also in the house at the time of the shooting alleged that they did not hear any gunshots since they had earphones plugged in their ears although the neighbours confirmed hearing the gunshots.
They were taken in by police together with the deceased’s wife for questioning,” said the source.
