By Paul Nyathi|Splinter MDC-T Deputy President Obert Gutu is visiting the United States of America on a mission to meet leaders of the United States Government to seek backing for his party.

Gutu told the Voice of America in an interview on Saturday that he is visiting the United States on his party business to garner the super power’s backing ahead of the upcoming elections.

“I will be meeting with members from the US Department of State on Monday,” said Gutu.

Gutu said that the agenda of the meeting will be to discuss the roadmap to a free and fair election in the elections coming up in July.

“The topical issue in the country which we can’t ignore is the issue of rigged elections and thats what we will discuss so that we get free and credible elections this year,” he said.

Gutu also said that he is going to discuss the issue of targeted sanctions the US put on Zimbabwe.

“We are also going to discuss the issue of the targeted sanctions with a plea to have the sanctions lifted as they are inflicting suffering on ordinary Zimbabweans instead of those that they are targeting,” said Gutu.
