Kazembe Supporters Appear In Court Over Robbery Charges

By Own Correspondent| A Bindura magistrate, Miriam Banda on Monday set 28 June as the trial date for Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairman and Sports minister Kazembe Kazembe’s supporters who are facing charges of robbery.

The four, Boyd Fungulani, Shingirai Chisango, Lens Faranando and Jonah Gwenya according to the state papers on 28 April, at Dandamera shopping centre in Concession robbed a 30 tonne truck which was loaded with $28 000 worth of food stuffs belonging to Harare businessman Tafadzwa Musarara.

The food stuffs were supposed to be given to party supporters ahead of the still contested Mazowe west constituency’s primary elections which were held on 29 April.

It is the state’s case that the four accused persons, while at the truck , deflated the tyres of the vehicle, looted the food stuffs and beat up the driver, one Bachelor Mpalane.

Mpalane sustained injuries as result of the attack and was taken to a private hospital in Harare where he was admitted for almost a week before being discharged.

The matter was reported to Concession police station.

Brighton Korera is representing the state which has lined up six witnesses who include Musarara the owner of the robbed truck while Tymon Tabana of Rubaya and Chatambidza legal practitioners is representing him.

The four accused persons are however out of custody pending trial.
