MDC Alliance presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa has said that if elected on 30 July, his cabinet will only have 15 ministers to avoid overburdening the tax-payer.

Chamisa said this while addressing a well-attended rally in Mutoko on Friday.

“We are going to have just 15 ministers in Zimbabwe, that will be enough. I will also make sure that those who steal are not recycled, but are fired from government. My government will not tolerate corrupt and thieving ministers,” Chamisa assured his supporters.

Zimbabwe holds elections on July 30 to choose a President, Members of the House of Assembly, as well as local ward Councillors. The election date was announced in a proclamation made by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday this week.

Chamisa bemoaned the fact that government had become a feeding tough for corrupt politicians.

“Government today has become a feeding trough, only those in power are the ones who are wealthy. The people who are appointed into government become rich overnight, that has to stop. One can’t be a minister, a businessman, a farmer and an employer, just that one person. No! We need to share those roles for effective production and wealth creation.”

He also said his ministers would seek medical treatment in local facilities instead of flying abroad as has been happening with ZANU-PF politicians.
