By Own Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has explained the logic of including foreigners as part of the Commission tasked with investigating the August 1 2018 violence saying that the foreigners had been ropped in to ensure transparency.

Mnangagwa, who is on record saying the Commission would be independent said the inclusion of the foreigners in the 7 member team was also premised on the fact that the violence occurred in full glare of the media.

Addressing journalists at his Munhumutapa offices Wednesday afternoon, Mnangagwa said the foreigners would be residing in Harare and they would be sworn in as soon as he comes back from China.

Said Mnangagwa in his statement:

“The Commission is made up of local, regional and international members who have been appointed in terms of the Commission of Enquiry Act Chapter 10:07.

The Commission among other tasks will look into the intervention of the ZRP in the violence, investigate the involvement of the military, consider the degree of force used and establish the extent of the damage or injury caused thereof.”
