By Own Correspondent| Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri has revealed that she does not have the mandate to comment on the progress regarding investigations into the August 1 2018 shootings arguing that the onus rested on President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is the appointing authority to the Kgalema Motlanthe led Commission of Inquiry.

Muchinguri Kashiri said this in parliament (Wednesday) while responding to a question with notice from MDC Alliance’s Hwange West legislator Godfrey Dube who wanted the Defence minister to appraise the house on progress of investigations into the shooting of civilians by soldiers on August 1 2018.

Said Muchinguri Kashiri:

“Regarding the progress, allow me first to thank the honourable member for the question that he has asked.

I am sure that the honourable member is aware that on the 19th of September 2018, his excellency the president (Emmerson Mnangagwa) swore in a Commission of Inquiry investigating the events of August 1 2018.

The terms of reference for the Commission are such that it reports directly to its appointing authority who is none other than his excellency the president, who in turn decides on when to share details and progress on the information with the nation.

In this regard I do not have any update neither do I have the mandate to do so.”
