Terrence Mawawa|Prominent social media analyst, Antony Taruvinga has described Strive Masiyiwa as a “smart conman.”

See Taruvinga’s argument below: ”
Strive Masiyiwa made abnormal profits through the most talked about exorbitant price of a sim card and
per minute billing. So much more of a smart conman.

As a capitalist, he took advantage of the fact that mobile communication and internet services were on very high demand. So he had to produce sim cards in small quantities to make them scarce and expensive in the environment with high demand.

One had to part way with one’s cattle to get a sim card. At that time, same sim cards were being sold for R10 and P20 in South Africa and Botswana respectively. But here,
one had to lose around US$400 to get a sim card.

The people actually financed the growth and operations of that business. He only injected the initial capital which he quickly recovered through exorbitant prices.

The proceeds he got from sim card sales were then used to expand Econet networks to small cities and
rural as well as provision of internet services.

People never had the chance to judge him fairly because they blindly supported anything that Mugabe never liked. So the people identified themselves with the ill treated Masiyiwa who in turn robbed them. His wealth is without doubt all ill- gotten. His greatest mistake now is to be in the corner of an illegal anti-people government. He is now calling

Strive Masiyiwa

for removal of sanctions on behalf of Mnangagwa.
