Correspondent|As the cyber war between former Information Minister Jonathan Moyo and businessman Strive Masiyiwa continues heating up, Moyo has sensationally claimed that the businessman gave Zanu-PF US$60 million to sponsor the bloody 2008 presidential run-off.
The run-off election was marred by violence and intimidation of voters and resulted in the deaths of at least 500 people according to the opposition.
Moyo claimed that Masiyiwa has a record of double-dealing by contributing funds both to the ruling Zanu-PF party and the opposition MDC party although his true allegiance was to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Moyo also disparagingly referred to Masiyiwa as a “Bond note Billionaire” and claimed that the businessman has always been using his money to bailout Mnangagwa on a number of occasions.
Writing on Twitter in a purported expose, Moyo said,
20/24 On the back of the 2008 runoff grain scheme, in 2013 Masiyiwa's #Econet joined Mbada Diamonds to give #ZanuPF some $60m to fund the organisation & conduct of the 2013 elections, outside treasury then run by @BitiTendai. Mnangagwa & Chinamasa were the instrumental hands!
