Farai Dziva|The members of the MDC A Veterans Activists Association have unearthed what they have described as a clandestine ploy- by some unscrupulous elements within the alliance – to jeopardize the operations of opposition party.

In a statement, the MDC A veterans said they had invited senior party members to take up leadership positions as part of efforts to restore sanity in Masvingo Province.

The veterans expressed confidence in the leadership of Nelson Chamisa.

“The province had been captured by certain individuals who tormented party members at will. All this is coming to an end because we are going to remove the James Gumbi led executive at the Provincial Congress,” read the statement.

Senior party members in Masvingo Province accused Gumbi of usurping president Nelson Chamisa’ s constitutional powers.

“The man(Gumbi) is working with his ilk to sabotage the president’ s programmes and objectives.We can longer tolerate it and we want to realign the party’ s vision.

We are fully behind president Chamisa and this time we will weed out all unscrupulous elements in the party,” said a senior party member.

The veterans want Former MDC A provincial secretary Tongai Matutu to replace Gumbi as the provincial chairperson.

“We are in the process of compiling a list of the new provincial executive and Tongai Matutu will be the new chairperson because he is a tried and tested cadre,” said the veterans.
