By Own Correspondent- Zanu Pf legislators today refused to observe a minute of silence for the late liberation war hero Dr Dumiso Dabengwa with the deputy speaker of parliament revealing that the august house does not observe a minute of silence for heroes who would have died while they are not members of parliament.
The development followed a request to observe a minute of silence for the late hero who died last week in Nairobi, Kenya while on his way from India where he had gone to seek treatment.
Independent legislator for Norton Temba Mliswa suggested that the house remember the late Dr Dabengwa not only for his role during the liberation struggle but also because he was a former member of parliament.
Mliswa also said observing a moment of silence was necessary to avoid fueling tribal controversy.
Said Tsitsi Gezi:
“We do not observe a minute of silence for liberation war heroes who die while they are not members of this house.”
