The price of Blend Petrol has gone up with immediate effect from $4.90 per litre to $5.26 per litre while the price of Diesel has gone up from $4.80 to $5.07 according to reports from social media circulations.
A notice which social media users have confirmed to be genuine, indicates that the increase is a result of the increase in the price of ethanol which is used to blend local fuel.
Government this week increased the ethanol blending on petrol from 15% to 20% in a move which was executed to reduce the cost of petrol.
According to the reports, the price increase has been attributed to an increase in the price of Ethanol from $2.98 per litre to $4.60 per litre. Ironically, diesel is not blended with ethanol and the ethanol is not imported but is locally produced.
