By Farai D Hove| Floating rumours that ZANU PF Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu has been arrested, were dismissed Monday afternoon when the accused himself spoke out.

A ZANU PF Twitter account notorious for rumour mongering had published the claims. They follow allegations that Mpofu has been involved in diamond and gold related corruption activities from the times he was Mines Minister during the Robert Mugabe days.

It was claimed he has been arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission.

Mpofu has before appeared on mines committee meetings under the same allegations.

But the politburo member told ZimEye, “I am here as you can see.

“Obviously some desperate people are trying to implicate me in these silly things. I have nothing to hide from anyone.

“I’m concentrating on my life and right now I’m in my office doing party work. All those who believe that I stole from anyone please bring the evidence.”

Meanwhile, a ZANU PF Twitter account previously known for giving accurate party updates announced saying:

“Social media has been abuzz that ZANU PF Sec for Admin Dr Obert Moses Mpofu has been picked up for questioning by ZACC, we can, at this time, confirm that the message is FAKE NEWS Dr OM Mpofu has not been arrested as alleged by those who started the social media story.” ZANU PF Patriots said. 

It added that Dr Mpofu is currently in Lupane on party business.

“The Admin Secretary is actually ceased with campaigning for the ZANU PF candidate in the upcoming Lupane East by-election. ZANU PF PATRIOTS thrives to give you correct information in real time every time.”
