By Own Correspondent | Former Local Government Minister Saviour Kasukuwere was yesterday cleared of criminal charges after the High Court ruled that the magistrate could be influenced by external forces.
Court documents in ZimEye’s possession show the verdict in whichJustice Chitapi says the magistrate “openly confessed that he was conducting the proceedings under pressure from certain persons. He was therefore not independent and impartial as his duties required him to be.” SEE BELOW (story continues)
Kasukuwere was arrested upon his return to Zimbabwe months after the November 2017 coup. He was slapped with corruption charges. He had fled the country after General Chiwenga’s troops forced former. President Robert Mugabe out of power in a coup that killed one CIO operative.
