Farai Dziva|A Zimbabwean pressure group has urged Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to probe the abduction of civilians.

“As Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR) Zimbabwe we would like to condemn the alleged abduction of Dr Peter Magombeyi, the President of Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA), on the early hours of 15 September 2019. Dr Peter Magombeyi is well known for his role in demanding labour & health justice in Zimbabwe. Section 29 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe states that the State must take all practical measures to ensure the provision of basic, accessible and adequate health services throughout Zimbabwe, but the hospitals are having to function without basics such as needles, drips and bandages.”

“Since January 2019 there have been over 50 abductions and torture incidents but there have been no arrests of the perpetrators. These spate of abductions and tortures that have been targeted against civilians over the last year is unlawful and is also a gross violation of their human rights. We demand that the Government of Zimbabwe investigate this alleged abduction and ensure the safe return of Dr Peter Magombeyi back to his family and loved ones.
