Zimbabweans Arrested While Smuggling Beer Into South Africa

South African Law enforcement agencies vowed to leave no stone unturned with regards to cross-border crimes.

This follows the arrests of three Zimbabwean men who attempted to smuggle alcohol into South Africa through the Beit Bridge Port entry in Limpopo.

The arrest was part of the Covid-19 lockdown operation which were conducted by Musina and Makhado police stations.

“ After receiving the information about the smuggled alcohol, the Makhado Cluster Crime intelligence with the assistance of Makhado and Musina police stations put in place a sting joint operation that led to the arrest of these suspects while travelling in a Mercedes Benz which was abruptly stopped, searched and alcohol to the value of R6000.00 was recovered and confiscated and the vehicle was impounded, the police statement read.

In another incident, a woman was also arrested at the same place and found in possession of alcohol to the value of R 6000.00 which was also to be smuggled into the Republic of South Africa.

The four suspects will face charges relating to contravention of the COVID-19 regulations.
