The Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO forum has filed a court application to the High Court of Harare to grant leave to sue the President of Zimbabwe on behalf of the Zimbabwe Women Lawyers Association(ZWLA) and the Women’s Academy for Leadership and Political Excellence (WALPE).

The women groups intend to seek a declaratory order from the High Court of Harare declaring that the President violated sections 17(1) (b) (ii), 90(1) and 104(4) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe when he appointed his cabinet in November 2019.

The President is among other things, required to ensure that women constitute at least half the membership of all elective and appointed governmental bodies established by or under the Constitution or any other Act of Parliament.
