The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services only managed to do one psychiatric test on Joana Mamombe in the time that she was bundled into Chikurubi Prison by a Harare Magistrate’s Court.
The failure by the Prisons Services to carry out two tests as directed by the court forced for a failed proceeding of the three Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDCA) ‘abductees’ case on Thursday.
The Harare Court ordered for a second mental assessment to be done on Mamombe by the Prisons Services before the trial continues.
The state told the court that there was no explanation from the ZPCS on why the second test was not done.
Mamombe has been incarcerated for two weeks for the mental health assessments after her lawyer had indicated that she was mentally unstable to stand trial.
Her lawyer Aleck Muchadehama advised the court that Mamombe will avail herself to the ZPCS for further assessment according to the standing court order that she be examined.
